Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Dental exams and cleanings are ideal for keeping your teeth healthy and strong. Cleanings are performed by licensed hygienists who use special tools to clear away hardened plaque, known as tartar. Exams give us a clear view of your dental health. We will create a treatment plan based on what we find during the dental examination.
Why might Dental Exams & Cleanings be needed?
The reason you need an exam and cleaning is because prevention is key to keeping your smile healthy. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for patients to forgo treatment altogether and spend years without comprehensive care. We recommend having a cleaning and exam done every six months, but we offer this care regardless of how long it’s been since your last appointment. The cleaning and exam allows us to prevent and detect areas of decay and other intraoral problems.
Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every member of your family can and should consider an exam and cleaning. We recommend coming in for these appointments every six months. These biannual appointments allow us to keep your teeth as clean as possible and to detect minor problems before they can get worse. The entire appointment takes only about an hour, and we will work to pre-schedule your next checkup visit so that you don’t forget to come in.
What happens during the appointment for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
The cleaning and exam begins with x-rays. These x-rays allow us to find underlying problems and conditions that may be detrimental to your oral health. Our licensed hygienist will then clean your teeth using special tools and instruments. Once this is done, your gums are checked for signs of periodontal disease and gingivitis. Our doctors then perform an examination to help find any problems that might be problematic to your smile. We create a treatment plan specific to you to help keep your smile healthy and strong.
